“Four Strong Winds” was written in 1961 by Canadian folk singer Ian Tyson (of Ian & Sylvia). It is widely considered one of the greatest Canadian songs of all time, reflecting themes of transient life, lost love, and moving “out Alberta way” for a fresh start.

Neil Young’s 1978 version on the album Comes a Time is one of the most famous covers. Growing up as a fan of the original, Young gave the track a melancholic country-rock feel, featuring harmony vocals by Nicolette Larson. His rendition helped cement the song’s status as a timeless folk standard.
